Chapter 1: The Month the Earth Stood Still (February 2015): 1
John Bevilaqua, an Atlantan raised in Tennessee, is hit with every
parent’s worst nightmare: the loss of a child. He seeks solace not
only within himself but through his second wife Mary Alice, who
helps him come to terms with the tragedy.
Chapter 2: Becoming Mary Alice (1947 to 2000): 9
Mary Alice Howell, born in Texas but raised in Tennessee,
attends two universities, marries and moves to New York State
and later to Atlanta. It is in the Georgia state capital that she
reunites with an old high school friend named John.
Chapter 3: Mary Alice + John: A Love Story (2000to 2002): 41
In Chattanooga, Mary Alice and John meet each other through
their Junior Achievement activities in high school, maintain their
friendship through college and go their separate ways for 30-plus
years. A chance meeting in Atlanta then renews their friendship.
Chapter 4: Our Life Together (2000 to 1014): 73
Mary Alice and John, now divorced from their spouses, fall deeply
in love, make a commitment to stay together for life and eventually marry. Their unbreakable bond enables them to cope when Mary
Alice is diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Chapter 5: Living with Cancer (2006 to 2014): 115
John stays by Mary Alice’s side every step of the way as she does
battle with cancer, even as her indomitable spirit allows the couple
to live a relatively normal life. But the disease wins out in the end.
Chapter 6: The Everlasting Spirit (2014 to present): 173
Devastated, John is determined to reach his wife through the spirit world. With the help of a medium he learns how to communicate
with Mary Alice and soon comes to realize “the end was only the
beginning.”
